May 10, 2011

There is a definite hum in the air at ChildLight Montessori. The play is coming!!

HALF HOUR

In Jen and Rachel’s class, I had a surprise offer from Griffin. She brought in the book, “Les oeufs verts au jambon” by Dr. Seuss. We took some time to read it in French. What a treat! Thank you, Griffin, for sharing that!

We then continued learning about “les animaux.” We used the same animals as the past couple of weeks: le chat = the cat, le chien = the dog, le cheval = the horse, le canard = the duck, la grenouille = the frog, la vache = the cow, le mouton = the sheep, le cochon = the pig. I put out 3 animals on the work rug. They then covered their eyes and I added an animal. They had to figure out which one was new and try to say it in French. Each week, they are remembering more and more. C’est superbe!

We then played color Bingo. Working in pairs, they needed to find the correct color on their card. They are really becoming pros at knowing their colors. C’est fantastique!

Finally, we continued reciting and acting out the poem “Six petits canards.” In Jen and Rachel’s class, Eli and Emma each had a turn at being the lead duck and wearing “les plumes.” In Pat and Arleen’s class, Mischa, Myles, Graham, Eva and Stella each had a turn. This week, they started repeating the key words more and more: petit (little), gros (big), mince (thin), joli (pretty), plume (feather), canard (duck), coin (quack). We should be able to finish up this poem next week.

EXTENDED DAY

In the afternoon, we had our first dress rehearsal. The children are working so hard and it’s all starting to click. We only have a couple more times to practice, so hopefully everyone is getting excited. I am! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Merci et à la prochaine…
